A Family Legacy
Howdy, we're the Potters!
Potter's Western Store was established in 1965. Clarence H. Potter and wife Eloise, and his brother Edmund V. Potter and wife Laura Belle, opened Farm & Ranch Store in Columbus, Texas on January 30, 1965. Before the end of the year, Clarence and Eloise became the sole owners and changed the name to Potter's Western Store to better reflect the merchandise they were carrying.
In 1974, their oldest son Clarence Henry, Jr. and wife Pamela moved back to Columbus and purchased the business. Henry and Pam grew the business from a small store on the outskirts of town, to a trusted local business and resource in the heart of the community. 50 years later, Henry and Pam continue to own and operate the store on a daily basis.
The third generation is now bringing Potter's into the next 50 years. Henry and Pam's children Charles, Brian, and Amanda - having grown up working in the store - are now involved with various parts of the family business, including management, social media, buying, customer service, and this website!
While we're still old school about a lot of things around here, we are excited to now bring a little bit of Potter's to you through modern technology. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
But some things will never change, there's still no computer on Henry's desk!
Texas Heritage
In 2022, we were honored to be named a Texas Treasure Historic Business by the Texas Historical Commission - recognizing 50 years in business, 50 years of ownership by the same family, and 50 years in the same location.
